NSAA PRESS RELEASE

MADISON, S.D. – The fourth edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week was announced Monday by the conference office.  Two Dakota State (S.D.) student-athletes were chosen to the weekly honors.  Brodie Frederiksen was selected as the Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Wyatt Sanford was chosen as the Defender-of-the-Week.

DSU cruised to a 38-21 homecoming football victory over NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Sept. 21 at Trojan Field.  The Trojans never trailed for the whole 60 minutes in the game.

Frederiksen, 5-foot-8 and 190 lbs. running back, rushed for over 200 yards for the second time in his career at Dakota State.  He rushed for a season-high 233 yards and ran for four touchdowns, including a game-long 68-yard touchdown run.  He had touchdown runs of 3-, 16- and 1-yard.

Frederiksen finished the game with 240 all-purpose yards.  He averaged 10.1 yards per rush (23 rushing attempts).

According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Frederiksen ranks second in the nation in rushing yards per game (171.3) and all-purpose yards per game (220.0).  He also ranks third in the NAIA in total all-purpose yards (660), fourth in total scoring (42) and scoring per game (14.0).  He is fifth in the nation in total rushing with 514 yards.

Brodie is the son of Matthew Frederiksen and Amy Janke of Madison.  He is a senior accounting major at Dakota State University.

Sanford, 6-foot and 190 lbs. defensive back, collected a hat trick – three interceptions – in the game for Dakota State.  He was just one interception shy of tying the Trojan football single-game school record (4 interceptions by Calvin Aus).

The Trojans set a single-game team record of six interceptions in the game, breaking the previous record of five interceptions which occurred three times.  It was over 15 years over when DSU recorded five interceptions in a single game.

Sanford's three interceptions all led to Dakota State's touchdown scoring drives.  His first interception came on the third play of the game in the first quarter with 14 minutes, 15 seconds on the clock, led the Trojans to a touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 13:11 left in the first.

His second interception came in the third quarter, fueling the Trojans to 8-plays for 72 yards touchdown scoring drive to widen their lead to 24-7 with 5:48 on the clock.  His third interception of the game came in the fourth quarter and returned it for 15 yards from the 50-yard line to WSP's 35-yard line, which was followed up with a touchdown to widen DSU's lead to 38-14 with 2:45 remaining.

Sanford also tallied three tackles (1 solo, 2 assist) in the game for DSU.

According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website, he leads the nation in interceptions per game (1.0) and second in total interceptions with three.

Wyatt is the son of Tom and Steff Sanford of Aitkin, Minn.  He is a junior elementary education major at Dakota State University.

Dakota State (2-1 overall record) opens the North Star Athletic Association seven-game football schedule on Saturday afternoon.  The Trojans travel to Shelly Ellig Field – Lokken Stadium to take on Valley City State (N.D.).  Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. in Valley City, N.D.
