The Warriors handed out defeat to two very good teams this week in the Brandon Valley Lynx and the Lincoln Patriots. The Warriors escaped with a 62-58 win against the Lynx this past Tuesday in a game played at Brandon Valley. In a game that Senior Zach Heins did not play due to an injured ankle, the Warriors found players who stepped up to make big plays when needed most. Logan Uttecht led the way for the Warriors posting 15 points followed closely by Junior Gabe Person who netted 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists in just 19 minutes of play. Topher Zahn added 10 points on a perfect night from the field, shooting 3/3 from the field, 2/2 from three-point range, and 2/2 from the foul line. In a quick turnaround, the Warriors hosted the rival Lincoln Patriots who barely clipped the Warriors in overtime when the two teams met previously. In a slugfest of a game where 42 total fouls were committed, the Warriors were able to come out on top with a hard-fought 52-44 victory. Uttecht again led the way for the Warriors with 16 points and a perfect performance from the foul line, netting all 10 of his attempts. Seth Benson played a tremendous all-around game with a gutty defensive effort to hold the opposing teams top player to no field-goal makes and 3 points total. Benson also netted 7 points including a big 2nd-half 3-point shot that gave the Warriors momentum. Gabe Person grabbed 12 big rebounds in the win to seal victory for the Warriors. Now with a full week of practice ahead of them, the Warriors will next be in action on February 3rd as they take on the Sioux City East Black Raiders at the Sanford Pentagon. The Black Raiders currently hold a 12-1 overall record and play two games this coming week prior to the matchup on Saturday. The game will be played at 9:30 pm, hope to see you all there!! #GoWarriors

Winning Ugly

The Warriors escaped with a close win on Saturday against Watertown, finishing with a final score of 51-45. Zach Heins led the Warriors with 15 pts and 11 rebounds. Logan Uttecht added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The defensive battle saw both teams struggle to make shots at time, and ball was lucky enough to bounce the Warriors way on the final possessions. Sometimes you have to win ugly! These type of games are great for the guys to go through in order to improve and know what it feels like to win a game where the ball isn't going in the basket. At the other levels, the JV won a close one 54-50 while the sophomores came up short with a score of 58-63. At the freshman level, the A team made out victorious with a 76-68 win. Elijah Williams had 30 points in the win. The B team fell short 35-50. The Warriors will be in action next tomorrow, January 18th as Brookings come to WHS. The Warriors will then take on undefeated Harrisburg on Friday @ Harrisburg. #GoWarriors

The Warriors are coming off a big win Tuesday night against the Knights of O'Gorman. Following a previous 3-game stretch where the outcome wasn't favorable, the Warriors bounced back with a 52-40 victory to move to 4-5 on the season. Zach Heins led the way with 19 points and 9 rebounds while Logan Uttecht followed with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Uttecht looked strong coming back from an illness that kept him out of both games in the Twin Cities. The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday hosting Watertown at the Washington High School Gym. We hope to see you all there! #GoWarriors

Twin Cities Weekend

The Warriors boys clashed with two elite teams in the Twin Cities this past weekend in last year's AAAA State Runner-Up Champlin Park, and perennial powerhouse, Hopkins. Both games were definite learning experiences as the guys saw elite competition at each position at all times on the floor. The JV squads started things off on Friday in Champlin Park as the Warrior JV lost a hard-fought game with a score of 66-56. Ben VanBockern led the team with 10 points in the contest. The Warrior varsity met last year's runner-up team on a night where they were firing on all cylinders. The final score resulted in a 43-76 loss as the guys realized they had to show up ready to compete from the opening tip with no fear. Zach Heins and Topher Zahn each contributed 12 points while Manny Akot grabbed 6 rebounds in the contest. On Saturday, the Warriors met a very talented and athletic Hopkins team played at the St. Louis Park High School Gym. Both the JV and Varsity showed much more fight and resilience during both games even though both teams came up short. The JV team went into halftime with a 9 point lead only to lose a close one with a final score of 53-56. Sophomore Dagen Schramm led the way with 11 points while Gabe Person and Ganin Thompson contributed 10 points each. The varsity jumped out to an early lead and went into halftime down 10 points. The energy and effort that was lacking one day earlier was much more evident, and the scoreboard reflected this. The effort continued in the second half even though the deficit increased as Hopkins made shots and secured rebounds. The game ended in a 69-91 loss for the Warriors, but spirits were high post-game as there were many promising possessions against a team that year in and year out produces Division 1 college athletes. Zach Heins led the way with 18 points on 7-12 shooting from the field and 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Heins also grabbed 13 rebounds. Right behind Heins were Topher Zahn and Manny Akota pitching in 14 and 13 points respectively. The Warriors are looking forward to an always intriguing in-city contest against O'Gorman on Tuesday at WHS, and are looking to get back on the winning track after learning valuable lessons that made us better in defeat. #GoWarriors

Tough One To Swallow

Thanks to all those who came out on an absolutely freezing cold day to support our guys. We fell to a good Prior Lake team 65-53, but know areas we need to improve upon. Our guys kept their heads up in defeat and know that they had their chances that they just didn't capitalize on today. They also know they will work hard to capitalize on those same areas come February and March! Final pledging stats from today's game: Three pt's: 4 FT's: 13 Assists: 10

OT Thriller!!

The WHS boys won a crazy overtime game against Wauwatosa West, WI with a final score of 62-59 at the Mike Miller Classic in Mitchell Friday afternoon. The Warriors were led by Zach Heins who led the way with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Close behind him were Logan Uttecht and Topher Zahn who each had 15 points in the win. Uttecht also had seven rebounds and four assists while Zahn netted three 3-pointers. As a team the Warriors made 5 3-pt field goals, 15 ft's and finished with 9 assists. The Warriors won a hard fought game against a very good Marshall team last night with a score of 49-43! It was a great way to head into the holiday break, and the guys are looking forward to some great competition coming very soon. Leading the way for the Warriors against Marshall was Logan Uttecht with 11 points, followed by Manny Akot with 10. In sub-varsity action, the Sophomore team came up short with a score of 47-59. Kyle Rygg led the way with 10 points followed by Ganin Thompson with 9. The freshman made out with a 38-30 victory and were led by Elijah Williams and Tyus Hanson who each had 12 points in the win. The Warriors upcoming schedule leads them into a matchup against Wauwatosa West, WI on December 29th at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. They will then turn around and take on Prior Lake, MN the following day in Sioux Falls at the Pentagon. We look forward to continuing to bring you updates and hope to see you at a game soon! Go Warriors!
