The Yankton Boys Basketball team has started the “Yankton Buck 3 Point Club.” We hope to bring together our patrons and provide a more personal feel for all of our fans. Every year our team purchases things above and beyond what the tax payer dollars provide for our team. Things like travel gear, new uniforms, a second meal on big road trips, team camps, and various pieces of equipment. Become part of our 3 Point Club and receive all the benefits of being a member.
Yankton Buck Basketball Supporters,
What an experience!!! The Yankton Bucks were able to win the Gary Munsen Tournament Championship which was apart of the bigger Hoop City Classic. The first game took place in the Corn Palace on Friday, December 28th. The championship game took place on Saturday, December 29th at the Sanford Pentagon.
The Bucks won the opening round of the tournament against one of the best teams in Wisconsin in its class in Dominican, Wisconsin. Dominican is led by Alex Antetokounmpo, whose older brother plays in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks and has been an all-star the past few years. As a team the Bucks were able to hold the Wisconsin star to just 4 points (he was averaging 24 coming into the contest) and the team to 52 points overall. Hot shooting allowed us to get a lead early and come away with the 72-52 win.
The championship game saw a rematch from the previous year with the Bucks once again facing off against one of Minnesota's best high school programs in DeLaSalle. DeLaSalle defeated the Bucks by 4 last season. This season saw the Bucks come out on top in another close one by the score of 71-65 in overtime.
Once again feel free to read more about these games by clicking on the links below, which are from the P&D.
Yankton Buck Patrons,
Hard to believe it is already January 15th and the regular season is half way done. The Bucks had a great first half of the season going 9-1 overall and 4-0 in ESD conference play. The Bucks suffered their lone loss of the season to a very good Sioux Falls Lincoln team on January 5th at home. Sioux Falls Lincoln was able to take control of the game early and never looked back in rout to a 69-53 win. Yankton had held onto their #1 preseason ranking all the way up until this game. Sioux Falls Lincoln is now the lone boys AA team without a loss and ranked #1. The Bucks are now ranked #2.
The Bucks have bounced back nicely from their setback and won two home games in a row. First, Yankton defeated #3 Huron in Yankton by the score of 66-60. Sophomore Matthew Mors broke his own single game school scoring record with 45 points in the win! It was a performance for the ages!! Four days later a tough Aberdeen team came to Yankton and Cole Sawatzke lead the Bucks to a dominating 62-29 victory.
We have attacked a couple articles from our local paper the Press and Dakotan. The local media does a great job of covering our area teams. We can't thank them enough for the work they do!
On behalf of YHS Boys' Basketball we want to wish Happy Holidays and send a special THANK YOU to all of our 3 PT Club members. Here is to a wonderful 2019!
In their first game of the year in Yankton the Bucks were able to defeat the Watertown Arrows by a score of 58-48. Sophomore Matthew Mors had a big night scoring 31 points! The Bucks made 10 three point shots in the win! Next up for the Bucks will be a home game Friday, December 21st at home against the Harrisburg Tigers. Go Bucks!
